Family Circle Cup a winner for Pet Helpers and Sadie!

Family Circle Tennis Week was quite exciting for some of our Pet Helpers animals. The week started out with three of our four legged friends in the big Lacoste fashion show on King Street that kicked off the opening of Family Circle Cup. They proved to be the real runway models and were fortunately a bit shy when the time came to get up and model in front of the crowd. Some would say they were the bigger attraction than the tennis players modeling the latest fashions! We plan to get next years’ group on stage a little more to get their high fashion walk down and show the others how it’s done.

Most people came out to the Family Circle Tennis Center recently to watch some great women’s tennis. Others were out to promote cars, tennis apparel, food or in the case of us at Pet Helpers, dogs that needed to be adopted! Lucky for us, our friends at Lacoste were instrumental in sponsoring a table by the entrance to the Tennis center to help promote our work, show off some of our current residents and showcase the new Adoption and Spay/Neuter Center.

As luck would have it, a few of North Charleston’s finest were working security that week and positioned right beside our location. That Thursday, we took Bosco and Sadie out to mingle with the crowds and two of the officers fell in love with both dogs. We made some new friends, as you usually do with animals, but a special bond was developing between Officer Chris Ratliffe and Sadie. I told him of her story and knew he was thinking of adopting a dog. He had told us of how his childhood pet had just passed away a few months ago, that he had just purchased a new home in Ladson, and thought it was time to get a new best friend.

I brought Sadie out again with me on Saturday and knew he was hooked. He had made the decision he was coming to adopt her on Monday. Luckily for him, our friends at Lacoste had offered to pay the adoption fee for any pet that was adopted during Family Circle Week, so in exchange, Officer Chris paid for a dog training class. This was a good bonding class for both Sadie and Chris and being only five months old and very energetic that sweet puppy needed a little training!

A week after her adoption, we are happy to announce that everything is going very well and they couldn’t be happier. I grew so attached to this little girl, and will keep in touch over the next few months to continue monitoring her progress. As we see so many times, you never know when the right person will be in the right place.

We invite each of you looking for a new pet to come and visit us at Pet Helpers. That perfect dog or cat may be waiting for you to take them home today. Always Opt To Adopt! If you’d like to make a donation or become a member contact : Pet Helpers, 1430 Folly Road, Charleston, SC, 29412 or email me at bmcelroy@pethelpers.org.

We would like to thank Bob and Karen Siegel and Lacoste for their generosity. Bob has agreed to support Pet Helpers at Family Circle week next year! Look for us and adopt a pet.
